Purcell • Dido and Aeneas
Purcell’s celebrated opera tells of the doomed love between the Queen of Carthage and the hero of Troy. It is told through dramatic choruses, exciting orchestral dances, and florid solos. Dido’s final lament When I am laid is one of the most heart-breaking moments in musical drama. The semi-staged performance will showcase the many wonderful solo voices of the choir.
This concert also marks the debut of a new ensemble. Led by baroque specialist Brian Lloyd Wilson and playing on period instruments, Sinfonietta Baroque draws on accomplished players from across the south.
Tickets £18, £2 under 18, are available online here, or at the door.
